We spent Saturday walking around town, and watching movies at my Aunt's house. It was really nice. We got to relax and recover some.
Fairhope is a small town, on the east side of Mobile Bay. It is really cute. They make an effort, there are strict rules about development. They spend money on flowers around town, and things like that. But it is nice that all the shops have to be independent, so there is some surprising variety. There was a really cute bookstore, like a smaller Third Place Books.
What you can't see is that it was above 70 and 99% humidity. We were swimming. And sweating. It was so gross! But walking around felt better than riding in the car.
Smoothie snack.
There we are in the mirror
Flowers were blooming! In the middle of December.
Cute example of the downtown. A little fancy salon next to the gumbo shack.
This store reminded us of our moms.
This says copper pot, it was a big stock pot, for $390.00. Ouch! There were crocks and lots of copper pots. As well as picture frames, art, furniture, some of it was imported from France I think, some of it found in the south. It was beautiful. But really pricey.
We walked down to the Pier.
Mobile Bay is shallow, kind of brown, and it was really flat that day. It was overcast. But so humid, Tanner felt like it was an alternate universe Puget Sound
Sandy beach in town, so cute
You could see Mobile in the distance, across the bay
We stopped for beers and snacks, super cute glass. We made a point to try local beers when we could, in Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina. We had some okay ones, and some good ones. It is tough! We don't have any context. The waitress at this place was so cute. People really were quite nice and chat with strangers. Which is still really awkward for us!
This is the community college campus in town, awesome porch! Very southern.
Stopped at the Piggly Wiggly. Tanner and Tim had never been to one.
For Jon, really huge selection at the store of different coals, including real wood coals
Tanner was super impressed at the giant cabbage!
We watched Jurassic World at my Aunt's house. I had never seen it! So that was really fun, Chris Pratt was pretty good. Later we encouraged my Aunt to get Guardians of the Galaxy, which she had never seen. That was still super fun a second viewing for us.
We also stopped at the ABC store. Tanner got a whiskey that is made in Alabama, I will have him try it and post a review. The liquor store had a good choice of whiskey and pretty good prices, so that was a nice surprise.
