My cousin Tim has his pilots licence and is working on his B.A. so he can be a commercial pilot. Tanner loves some physics and machines as well. So we knew the boys would have a good time.
I took a ton of photos, but most of them aren't that interesting. We missed the welcome to Florida sign.
We weren't really supposed to take pictures here, the museum is in the naval base, so we had ID checks
I should have taken more photos of the uniforms and outfits, there were actually interesting. History of fabric development. We saw some awesome mukluks.
Two huge buildings just crammed full of planes!
Giant plane that was the first to sail over the Atlantic. That was a piece of history I never knew about.
We love tour guides! We all nodded and looked interested, so he ended up talking to us a lot, which was funny. He also got cousin Tim confused with Tanner, and ended up addressing Tanner as if he were a pilot, when he meant to address Tim.
This was a good one. The pictured just on the right is the plan when it was pulled up from the ocean near San Diego. And the pilot who crashed it! They restore all the planes at the museum, this one took years. They are all restored with appropriate technology, so they are amazingly accurate. They also have a lot of really rare aircraft, some are the only one left in the world.
Trolley tour on the grounds. Here is an example of a heap of junk, that will be restored one day.
Radioactive?
Some space stuff, early Apollo astronauts were all naval pilots to begin with.
Moon rock
They had a little section for Coast Guard aviation history.
Loved this recruiting poster, join the Coast Guard, save damsels in distress!
Coast Guard has always been better for women.
After the museum on the way home we stopped in Pensacola at Joe Patti's. It is a HUGE fish market and shop. They steamed our shrimp in the shop and we ate on the patio.
It was packed, these photos don't do justice. They had a really long counter with tons of teenage girls working behind them. Tons of choices of fresh fish and sea critters.
Light up lobster tells us when our shrimp are done!
Also beignets outside!
Tanner seriously looks surprised in all our photos. One of his big goals was to eat gulf shrimp. It was soooooo good. We got "spicy" seasoning, it was spicy, but not too much. The shrimp were big and juicy.
